UNHEARD: THE MISSING PAGES OF HISTORY – THE NINE UNKNOWN MEN

Mankind has forever been fascinated with the idea and stories of secret societies. The Illuminati is probably one of the most recognized and popular secret society known to us. But what if I told you that another one existed, that too in India? Very few must know about this, even though this society can be dated back to 273 BC. So, who are these nine men? What is this secret society? Why was it formed? Who was it formed by? These are just a few of the questions that will be answered below.

In the year 273 BC, the gruesome and murderous war of Kalinga had just ended. The emperor of the vast Mauryan Empire at the time was Ashoka. Post the Kalinga War, Ashoka controlled the whole of the Indian subcontinent except the southern parts. The Mauryan Empire was one of the largest empires of the world at the time. However, the Kalinga war traumatized Ashoka. The war resulted in the death of around 1,50,000 soldiers on both the sides. These figures shocked Ashoka and he renounced war. He decided to follow the path of dharma and converted to Buddhism. He went across countries like Nepal, Tibet, China and Mongolia to spread the teachings of Buddha and his desire to avoid blood went to an extent where he converted to vegetarianism and avoided killing of animals all together. The edicts of Ashoka give enough and more evidence about this. However, another very important piece of information that is seldom mentioned in the life of Ashoka is the creation of a certain ‘group’ called The Nine Unknown Men. Ever heard of them? Ever read about them? I’m guessing the answer amongst most of you out there is no. So, let me take you back in time – around 2000 years ago.

The year is 273 BC. The great emperor Ashoka of the Mauryan Empire had decided to follow the path of dharma, and had abandoned war or violence of any kind, completely. But he decides to take this a step further. He realizes that human kind has the access to a vast sea of knowledge, which can be put to both a constructive and a destructive use. So as to avoid the possibility of another war as gruesome as Kalinga, he created a ‘secret society’ of sorts, which included 9 men. Each of these men were given one topic to research upon, find all the knowledge that exists on that topic and safeguard it in a manner that no one except these nine men will ever be able to find it. But what were these topics? What were the contents of these nine books?

The very first book deals with ideas of psychological warfare and propaganda’s that could be used to manipulate a crowd and the attitude of an entire society. The second book deals with the human physiology. This book possesses all the dangerous techniques and substances using which a person can be killed – how to create poisons, kill more efficiently, different ways to manipulate pressure points and also how to kill with ‘a mere touch’. The third book deals with microbiology. All the potential ways that could be used to manipulate microbes and how it can wipe out the entire mankind. But this book unlike the previous two, also talks about how this can be used as an advantage. It is said that the Ganges river is purified by microbes, using the techniques mentioned in this book. The fourth book, talks about alchemy, the transmutation of metals. Around this time, there was a kind of ‘trend’ wherein the temples across the country would have a sudden influx of gold in the times of need. This book explains this phenomenon as a result of alchemy. Meaning, that the metals in and around the temple must have mysteriously converted themselves into gold.

The fifth book, delves into the subject of communication. Specifically, communication with extraterrestrial beings, which may hint towards communication with “aliens”. This was fairly complicated notion in 273 BC, and it suggested that they might have had some knowledge or a suspicion, at the least, about life in the outer space. The sixth book talks about all the ‘secrets of gravity’ and ways to make the anti-gravity aircraft called Vimana which is mentioned a lot across Hindu mythology. This vehicle, is also referred to as the Ancient UFO of India. The seventh book contains a vast amount of knowledge and information on cosmology and how the universe functions. It mentions ways in which space and time can be bent, how to travel between different dimensions, how to travel faster than light and according to some sources there has been a mention of how-to time travel as well. The eighth book contains information on light – ways to increase and decrease its speed, instructions on how to bend it according to one’s will and how to use it to create weapons such as lasers. The ninth and the final book is probably the most dangerous out of all of them. This book talks about sociology. It contains all the rules for the evolution of human civilizations and societies – how to predict their decline, and basically, how to create, nurture, and destroy a whole culture/civilization.

There were always to be only nine of them – no more, no less. They had their own language, one devised by them and never heard of before. They would communicate only in this language, to make sure that their identities would remain obscured and hidden forever. All the knowledge that they possessed was to remain within the realms of these nine men only. As a result, they would be a witness to the rise and fall of many civilizations, and they were to do nothing about this unless mankind was in dire need of their help. But, did these nine men really exist? How come there has been no mention of them ever before? This theory was uncovered by Talbot Mundy, a British police officer, who served in the British Indian force for 5 years. After his brief stay in India, he wrote a book called ‘The Nine Unknown’, which was based on this very secret society itself. He claimed that this society did exist during the reign of Ashoka ‘The Great’. This did not seem as a very reliable source at the time, because Talbot Mundy stayed in India only for 5 years. He was an outsider who discovered an ancient Indian secret society which remained heavily guarded for more than 2000 years.

But, in 1960, a novel called ‘The Morning of the Magicians’, written by two French journalists, was published. This novel too referred to a secret society of nine, formed in ancient India. They provided a background story too, to prove their existence. It is said that Pope Silvester II, the first French Pope, had met the secret society and that another 19th century French Administrator and writer Louis Jacolliot had also confirmed their existence. This is how the story goes. After his visit to India, the Pope brought back home a bronze head, which was like a computer. It was capable of answering ‘yes and no’ questions and interacting via speech. This was supposed to have been given to him by the Nine Unknown Men. When he tried to display this to the public, he suddenly, mysteriously fell ill and died. Some say that this was the job of the Secret Society of the Nine, and that they had him killed, because they had to protect their identity at any cost.

All in all, the authenticity of these claims remains unknown to date. However, if they actually did exist, then they are the oldest secret society of the world. Even now, very few know about The Nine Unknown Men. It is said that this society still exists. It was either passed to another generation of nine or the same nine, who founded this society, continue to be a part of it. They could be living amongst us or in a secluded area somewhere, but still always watch over us. A society that was founded more than 2000 years ago, could possess knowledge that mankind now seeks with an unquenched thirst. These nine men have the power to watch our civilization collapse, and yet do absolutely nothing about it.
